I agree.

This is not directed at you but the tipping issue itself - yes a rant from me but this is the right place for it. 9/10 places I go to even though they charge a buttload, service often not just isn't good enough it's positively crap. Then the waiter gets the bill and expects a tip. And they frown if you don't give them one.
WTF, I mean WHAT THE HELL! What did the waiter do? They gave me a plate and took my order, whatever it's their job. They are a small part of the chain of people and effort in giving me a complete meal. The cook did hard work in a hot kitchen and that job is far more stressful and tiring than waiting. And I have done both of those jobs so I know. Do I go in the kitchen and tip the cook? Does the waiter share their tips with everyone? (I know some places do this but not most). Should I tip the interior decorator that made such comfortable surroundings, or the farmers for organic farming or the person who made the cutlery? What the hell .
Tipping is something that is optional and there's a minimum wage for a reason. It's there to show off how rich you are and if the waiter did an extra good job. If you feel the owner is abusing the staff or underpaying them take it up with them or boycott that restaurant. There are so many people who work and do a good job for you that you never tip, there are peole who don't get paid enough for what they do. What do you do for them? Tipping is a grotesque phenomenon as it is (+10% +15% whatever) IMHO. There was an episode of "Friends" where I think Ross payed a full tip when the father of his girlfriend paid for the meal. The father was rightly upset and said something like "if you're so rich why don't you pay for the whole meal" or something like that. I totally agreed with that. I do tip sometimes but only if I feel like it (some people do a super job). I'd rather give the tip to the hungry person on the street outside the restaurant. Once I tipped about 5% and my friend added the same amount even though I told him it was on me. Well he never did that again after I explained it. That's a pet peeve of mine.

And amen to that. As a faith-oriented person, I find myself having to deal with the venom and bile from those "offended" by my admitting to living a faith-based life. Seems if I identify myself as a person of faith, I'm immediately intolerant and should keep my opinions to myself. How tolerant is that?
That's what I hate.

I do not know if the poster was directing that at you. My feeling he was not. I am a smoker and I do not smoke in public places, except if it is OUT SIDE! Then I see no reason not too. What irritates me about Anti Smoking Nazis is that they jump all over you for a cigarette but it is ok to walk/drive down the steet and suck up the wonderful exhaust from all the vehicals. Ever had a school bus in front of you at a light with its exhaust pipe aiming at you like a canon?
People have gone over board against smoking. Wat annoys me more then smokers is people that take up more space in the real world then I. People that can't stop feeding themselves. Then they gripe because seats are too small. Ever tried to just walk through a crowd at a mall, concert, etc. and there was really huge people in front of you? Of course they are going to walk side-by-side too. Or I get on a flight and what do ya know there is a person next to me that is overflowing into MY well paid seat. They ask me if I can put up my arm rest. I politly say no. I paid for that arm rest.
When it comes to smoking in public places I can understand an area for non smokers. Restaurants for example. What they have to realize that they are putting into their bodys more harmful substances then smoke when they eat out. Ever hear of High Fructose corn Syrup? It is in more and more foods now a days. It is a real cheap sugar base. Ever wonder why more and more people have Diabetes? This is a major contributor. This to me is way more damaging then some smoke floating in the air from smokers.
I could go on....but what is the point....?

What annoys me is that smokers for the most part have no consideration of how smoking effects others. I have asthma, which is set off by cigarettes. Not only that but cigarette smoke makes me feel ill. The fact of the matter is a lot of smokers disregard anti smoking notices. I myself have to use public transport on a regular basis, buses mostly. Now on buses there are no smoking signs everywhere. Do people pay heed to them? NO! They don't. Without fail nearly everytime I get on a bus there is someone smoking upstairs. This means If I get on a bus which is full downstairs but has free seats upstairs I must stand because someone will smoke upstairs. Not that it makes a huge amount of difference anyway, I can still smell the smoke. Also if I want to go to a pub or go to a restraunt I have to put up with smoking. So what if they're over the other side of the restraunt I can still smell it and it still make me wheeze. And yes its the same outside too. If somone is smoking 30 meters down the road from me, I can still smell it.
What really gets my goat though is that smokers appeal to others by saying if you don't let me smoke you're abusing my human rights. This is completely ridiculous and a hipocrytical statement. I mean when you smoke you are forcing others to smoke too. Thus you are denying them their human rights of not wanting to smoke. Thus this argument is completely flawed. Most smokers smoke because they gain pleasure from it. They don't have to smoke. However I can't smoke and can't be near smokers due to my health. I can't control the fact that my breathing deteriorates aroung cigarette smoke. I mean if they want to smoke, thats fine, but why should other people suffer for it. I believe smoking should be limited to ones home.
So next time you light up consider the fact that your ciggarette smoke could make someone like me ill and all for the sake of making you happy.

people who "think" theyve been (and I HATE this word) -dissed-, then go to extraordinary measures to exact revenge....I mean let it go already...everyone is a nobaody and you dont have the right to seek out revenge on some one who got the better of you, get over it...next time LOOK and see if the guy placed 30 platinum or 30 gold in the trade window!
-edit....applies to all forms of -dissing-

I personally don't smoke, but if someone else wants to outside or in their home, etc., I really couldn't give a shit. I have a problem when they are inconsiderate, but other than that, whatever floats their boat is fine with me

The fact of the matter is most smokers in public do not consider themselves as being inconsiderate. They're smoking outside so who cares. Well me for one, because inside or outside it still affects my asthma. The postion you take suprises me somewhat. Are you completely happy to let somone do whatever they want, whatever floats their boat, even if it infringes on your happiness? What is wrong with a compromise, one that allows those who do not wish to be near smokers to have the right to this and one which allows smokers to smoke, but in their own personal space.

People who think atheists "hate" or "deny" their particular god without realizing that you can't hate/deny something that doesn't exist.
People arguing against teaching real science in schools that have no idea of the science they're arguing against.
